Wellbeing
At Reidy Park Primary School, student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every student feels valued, connected, and empowered to thrive. Through proactive wellbeing programs, strong relationships, and a focus on social and emotional learning, we work in partnership with families to support the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our Wellbeing Approach
At RPPS, we use three key approaches to support the wellbeing of every student: Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL), trauma-informed practices, and restorative practices. These work together to create a safe, respectful and supportive school environment.
-
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) helps us teach and reinforce positive behaviours, so students know what is expected and feel confident and successful at school.
-
Trauma-informed practices help staff understand how stress and trauma can affect children’s emotions, behaviour, and learning. This ensures we respond with empathy, structure and support.
-
Restorative practices focus on repairing relationships and building a strong sense of community by teaching students how to solve problems, take responsibility and restore trust.
Together, these approaches create a consistent and caring environment where students feel safe, connected and ready to learn. Families benefit from clearer communication, stronger partnerships with staff, and a shared commitment to helping every child succeed.
Social Emotional Learning at RPPS
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a key part of our wellbeing approach. It helps students understand and manage their emotions, build strong relationships, show empathy, and make positive choices. SEL supports students to become confident, respectful and resilient learners.
We teach these skills explicitly through programs like the Zones of Regulation, the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum, and the Berry Street Education Model, and we embed them into daily routines—such as welcome circles, brain breaks, and problem-solving discussions. SEL also supports our work in Positive Behaviour for Learning, trauma-informed and restorative practices.
By building social and emotional skills in every classroom, we help students feel more connected, settle to learning, and navigate challenges calmly and respectfully—at school and beyond.
